About Us

Rainbow Region Community Farms Inc (RRCF) is a not-for-profit association, formed in 2006, and has the broad aim of promoting community gardens and related initiatives in and around Lismore in the Northern Rivers area of New South Wales, Australia. At present our major activity is management and operation of the Lismore Community Garden, under a Deed of License with Lismore City Council.

The overall aims of RRCF are to contribute to the community of Lismore in a number of ways. By encouraging people to get involved in gardening activities, especially those involving edible produce, RRCF can help improve family nutrition through healthy eating, facilitate environmental sustainability, promote local health and fitness, provide education about a variety of gardening related topics through training projects and workshops, and help create employment and work experience opportunities.

As well as managing the community garden, RRCF is developing a program for helping people establish smaller neighbourhood gardens and working with Lismore City Council on an Edible Gardens project.

GETTING INVOLVED

You can join our membership, become a volunteer, make a donation or send us an email!

Let us know what you’re up to in your garden or ask us a question.
Otherwise come and see us at the Garden.

Volunteers can help out in a variety of ways, including:

Planting, watering, weeding, maintaining, harvesting fruit and vegetables grown in a variety of small garden plots. We use organic principles and water conserving methods.

Helping out with general garden maintenance, including mowing, whipper snipping and keeping native borders and grounds looking neat and tidy.

Helping in the nursery with sowing seeds and nurturing seedlings for the garden as well as saving seeds from our crops.

Getting involved in the various construction projects as the garden develops.

A membership supports the gardens costs for materials of all sorts. You get updates about the community gardens and the opportunity to be involved in the management committee.

Events

From time to time, we conduct demonstrations and workshops about sustainable gardening techniques and healthy eating, as well as more social events such as solstice celebrations and fundraisers.

LCG is also developing garden plots to be rented on an annual basis by both individuals ad community groups to provide activities.

The management committee have been in long discussions regarding how to get the Garden a toilet to host events. In the meantime we are working on our event induction process.
